Structure
|
This 15 months top up programme is composed of 6 modules, each carries 15 credits plus an Honours Research Project which carries 30 credits All modules are assessed bycoursework unless otherwise stated. The modules have been developed to deliver the stated aims of the programme:
1. Inter-professional Project 2. Valuation and Law (assessed by exam and coursework) 3. Professional Practice and Managerial Skills 4. Advanced Applied Valuation 5. Corporate Real Estate Management 6. Portfolio Decision Making 7. Honours Research Project * All modules and research project are assessed by coursework unless otherwise stated. All coursework and examination papers will be prepared and marked by local teaching staffs.

Module Description
Course Module
|
1. Inter-professional Project (15 credits) The module brings together the different but related disciplines across the School in a live practice setting and thus affords students an opportunity to apply their profession-specific expertise and interpersonal competencies to a live project for a client. 2. Valuation and Law (15 credits) This module is designed with a practical emphasis.Consequently, students will need to demonstrate an understanding of the legal principles by discussing them with colleagues and applying them to practical scenario-type situation. Much of what is required is designed to mirror professional practice so that students are in a better position to advise business people - many of whom may be landlords and tenants - of the way in which the law impacts upon their day-to-day activities and decisions. 3. Professional Practice and Managerial Skills (15 credits) This module prepares students for project/caseload management challenges as they embark on graduate and trainee management roles. It provides students personal skills for project management such as time management, leadership, motivation, communication, conflict management. The module also covers practical and technical skills such as stakeholder analysis, risk, law/legal implications/health and safety, planning processes, programming, procurement, cost/financial analysis and sustainability. 4. Advanced Applied Valuation (15 credits) This module aims to provide student knowledge, understanding and critical awareness of the theory and practice of valuation as it relates to estate management and the analytical skills necessary to tackle problems encountered in this wide-ranging field. It also facilitates the acquisition, development and enhancement of the requisite transferable skills to enable them to success in professional practice; and adds to a thorough understanding of the economic, legal, social, political, business management and financial aspects of estate management. 5. Corporate Real Estate Management (15 credits) This module seeks to appraise the principal ways of managing property from the perspectives of an operational and asset management for a variety of commercial sectors and industries and in addition explains the principles of corporate real estate professional and the aim of this module is to enable students apply knowledge gained in different subject areas to conceptualise and implement programmes for operational and asset management. 6. Portfolio Decision Making (15 credits) The module aims to help students develop a critical understanding of real estate investments environment required for a sound decisions making. The module builds on the previous knowledge gained in law, economics, valuation, investment and finance by emphasizing both theoretical and analytical aspects of property decisions in the context of portfolios formation and management 7. Honours Research Project (30 credits) The double module aims to develop and enhance the requisite intellectual, practical and transferable skills necessary for graduates to enter relevant professional practice. Able to apply academic theory in context, respond to the opportunities and challenges of the evolving technological economic, social and environmental demands within which Built Environment professionals and organization operate.

Entry Requirements
|
1. Higher Diploma, Associate Degree or Professional Diploma in Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, Building Surveying, Real Estate Management.
2. Other relevant qualifications with substantial work experience will be considered on a case to case basis and at the discretion of Birmingham City University
Students are expected to attend two evening classes per week (from 7:00pm to 10:00pm) for each semester. The time schedule is tentative, course modules and fees are subject to change without prior notice.
