Course Aims and Objectives |
The BSc (Hons) in Building Surveying focuses on educating practicing professionals and adding value through detailed analysis and appreciation of professional relationships, costing techniques, buildability, design economics and procurement.This involves the development of problem solving, team collaboration, numeracy and accountability skills to ensure construction projects are delivered to the satisfaction of the client and other construction professionals and influence a better future in the built environment. Module Structure |
This 15 months top up programme is composed of 6 modules, each carries 15 credits plus an Honours Research Project which carries 30 credits. All modules are assessed by coursework unless otherwise stated. The modules have been developed to deliver the stated aims of the programme:
1. Inter-professional Project
2. Building Surveying Practice
3. Commercial Surveys and Reporting
4. Defect and Structural Appraisal
5. Conservation Issues in Practice
6. Project and Maintenance Management (assessed by exam and coursework)
7. Honours Research Project
* All modules and research project are assessed by coursework unless otherwise stated. All coursework and examination papers will be prepared and marked by local teaching staffs. |
Module Description

1. Inter-professional Project (15 credits) The module brings together the different but related disciplines across the School in a live practice setting and thus affords students an opportunity to apply their profession-specific expertise and interpersonal competencies to a live project for a client.
2. Building Surveying Practice (15 credits)

4. Defect and Structural Appraisal (15 credits)
5. Conservation Issues in Practice (15 credits)
6. Project and Maintenance Management (15 credits)
7. Honours Research Project (30 credits)

Entry Requirements |
1. Higher Diploma, Associate Degree or Professional Diploma in Building Studies, Quantity Surveying, Building Surveying, Construction Management, Architecture, Civil Engineering, Real Estate Management, HKUSPACE Diploma in Surveying and the like.
2. Other relevant qualifications with substantial work experience will be considered on a case to case basis and at the discretion of Birmingham City University.
Students are expected to attend two evening classes per week (from 7:00pm to 10:00pm) for each semester. The time schedule is tentative, course modules and fees are subject to change without prior notice.
CPE reserves the right to amend the programme’s delivery and cancel the programme. |
